This elderly man had worked in a tannery in Essaouria, Morocco, all his life ('dardaba'). The conditions were terrible; hot, filthy and full of the stench of dead animals.  He didn't need pity or rescuing. His income provided a good standard of living for his family and he had great pride in his work.
